🎨 About the artwork:
The illustration comes from the Stuttgart Playing Cards, a luxurious hand-painted deck created around 1430 in southern Germany (likely Swabia).
The cards were richly gilded and illustrated with a unique hunting-themed suit system:
Court cards were gendered by suit — a system found nowhere else in card history:
Only 49 of the original 52 cards survive, preserved as a rare glimpse into the visual culture of the time.
