Pair of embroidery scissors in the Scottish Mauchline spirit

These embroidery scissors are inspired by sewing items covered in tartan paper which were extremely fashionable all through the 19th century. Originally made in Scotland in the town of Maughline, their production was quickly spread all over Europe. These are made from genuine fabric instead of paper, which has been confined within a layer of crystal acetate. The delicate blades are engraved with the Sajou name. These scissors are adorned with a passementerie pompom in red, green and white tones to match the tartan.
Size: 11cm - Sajou stamp on the upper blade.
Presentation: in a box with the same tartan as the scissors.
All these products are MADE IN FRANCE.
An important detail enables us to judge the quality of a pair of scissors; the pairing marks - the number which you can see on the interior of each of the blades( you will notice the number "38" on the photos presented here). This number is different on each pair of scissors and indicates that both parts have been paired together from the first assemblage to make a perfect match. After the first fitting, the scissors are taken apart and each shear undergoes the different processing operations before being reassembled and finished.
In the 19th century such scissors would need the craftsmanship of a cutler for the steel blades and an ornamental turner for the mother of pearl work. Nowadays the distribution of the work is quite similar: the blades are still made by a master cutler, and the handles are created in our own ateliers.
